Christian leaders across Nigeria’s 19 Northern states and the Federal Capital Territory have officially reverted ro their original name, the Northern Christian Association (NCA), formally known a the Forum of Northern Christians.
The decision explained that the move marks a return to its founding identity established in 1964, prior to the formation of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in 1976.
Leaders clarified that dropping the “CAN” title does not signal a separation from national Christian body. Rather, It is intended to restore historical identity and eliminate confusion regarding its structure and relationship with the national CAN.
Speaking on the development, Joseph Hayab, Chairman of the northern body, emphasized that the group remain committed to CAN at the national level.
He stated that the rebranded association would concentrate on issues affecting Christians in Northern Nigeria, including religious freedom, access to education, and equitable opportunities for Christian communities.
The NCA has reportedly completed its formal registration and incorporation, positioning it to operate with clearer regional mandate while maintaining unity with the broader Christian body in Nigeria.
