Founder of the Mountain of Liberation and Miracle Ministry, Dr. Chris Okafor, has publicly addressed how an intended private remarriage became a major public controversy.

Speaking to journalists at a Lagos press briefing, the televangelist said the situation arose when an event planner, whom he trusted, leaked confidential information about the planned ceremony, causing the story to spread widely online.

According to Okafor, the remarriage plans were meant to remain among a small circle of trusted individuals involved in the preparation. “What was meant to be a personal and quiet decision suddenly became a subject of public spectacle,” he said.

Okafor lamented that once the information leaked, social media commentators and bloggers speculated, presenting conjecture as fact. He argued that the online coverage revived earlier allegations against him, creating a misleading narrative that spiraled beyond his control.

He criticized influencers and bloggers for prioritizing traffic and sensationalism over accuracy, stating,

“It is deeply hurtful when private information is leaked and people rush to conclusions instead of asking questions.”

Okafor urged lawmakers to introduce stricter regulations to curb irresponsible online behavior and called for cybercrime authorities to track sources of leaks and hold them accountable.

ORIGINS OF THE OKAFOR–OGALA CONTROVERSY — DECEMBER 2025
The controversy began when Nollywood actress Doris Ogala publicly claimed that she had been in a long-term relationship with Pastor Chris Okafor since 2017. She alleged that Okafor had promised to marry her but failed to honor the commitment, and that the relationship negatively affected her personal life.

OKAFOR MARRIAGE TO ANOTHER WOMAN — DECEMBER 2025
Despite the brewing feud, Okafor proceeded with his remarriage to another woman. This further fueled backlash from Ogala and social media users.

LATE DECEMBER 2025 — ADDITIONAL CLAIMS
Ogala claimed Okafor had offered her a settlement to retract her accusations, which she rejected. She also alleged that he shared private photos without her consent.

PUBLIC APOLOGY — DECEMBER 27, 2025
Okafor publicly apologized to Ogala during a church service, acknowledging mistakes but denying that all allegations were true. Ogala expressed forgiveness but maintained that parts of her story were accurate.

ESCALATING ALLEGATIONS INVOLVING OTHERS
Other individuals also made claims against Okafor, including a former wife alleging infidelity and a former choir member claiming he fathered a child with her. Additionally, a viral audio clip emerged of a woman claiming to be Okafor’s daughter making further allegations, which he denied.

Social media personalities became involved, sharing videos and commentary that amplified the controversy. Comedians also publicly engaged in disputes with Ogala related to the case.

LEGAL ACTIONS AND COURT ORDERS
In January 2026, a Lagos State High Court issued a gag order barring Ogala, social media influencers, and others from mentioning Pastor Okafor or publishing private materials about him online while the case continues.
The order was intended to curb further viral dissemination of content pending ongoing court proceedings.

POLICE AND OFFICIAL RESPONSES
Lagos police reportedly initiated investigations into allegations against Okafor, including sexual misconduct and other serious claims, though no formal charges were filed at the time. Okafor voluntarily appeared for questioning as authorities examined the complaints.

IMPACT ON CHURCH OPERATIONS
Reports indicated that Okafor’s church branch in Canada had closed amid the ongoing controversies.

He also temporarily stepped down from his pulpit duties, citing a personal retreat, which many observers linked to the public fallout.

The feud between controversial Pastor Chris Okafor and Doris Ogala evolved from private disputes into a widely publicized controversy involving social media, legal interventions, and police investigations.

What began as personal accusations of broken promises and relationship disputes escalated due to viral online content and the involvement of multiple parties.

The court’s gag order reflects ongoing judicial oversight aimed at balancing freedom of expression with protections against potential defamation and reputational harm.

In disputes of this nature, verified evidence and formal legal procedures remain critical for ensuring fairness and accuracy, rather than relying solely on social media narratives.
