The Nigeria Police Force has dismissed circulating reports alleging a heavy presence of terrorists in the Lugbe area of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
9News Nigeria reports that a viral message on WhatsApp and other social media platforms had claimed that 79 terrorists were hiding in the Lugbe axis, further announcing an alleged curfew.
However, in a statement released on Sunday, March 2, 2025, by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the police categorically debunked the claim, warning the public against spreading unverified information.
According to the statement, intelligence gathered by the Force and other security agencies has found no evidence of terrorist activity in Lugbe or its environs.
The police further clarified that the message, which falsely bore ACP Adejobi’s name, was a deliberate fabrication intended to incite panic and disrupt public order.
“The Force believes this message was generated by devious individuals seeking to create tension and destabilize the peace in the FCT,” the statement read.
The police urged Nigerians to rely only on verified sources for security updates, directing them to the Force’s official social media handles: @PoliceNG on X, @ngpolice on Facebook, and @nigeriapoliceforce on Instagram.
The Force also advised citizens to verify information before sharing and to disregard unverified security alerts from unofficial sources, reassuring residents of its commitment to maintaining peace and security across the FCT and the nation at large.
“The Nigeria Police Force remains dedicated to protecting lives and property. We encourage the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station or through our emergency contact lines,” the statement added.
