S’Court gives Rivers State govt go ahead on probe of Ameachi alleged N96 bn fraud

The Supreme Court of Nigeria has Okayed the Rivers State government probe of the immediate past Governor of the State Rotimi Ameachi on an alleged N96 billion fraud.

The Supreme Court has dismissed the appeal filed by Ameachi now seeking Presidential ticket to be the All Progressive Congress- APC flag bearer in the forthcoming 2023 Presidential election who asked the court to stop his probe over an alleged N96 billion fraud.

In a lead judgment prepared by Justice Emmanuel Augie but read by Justice Adamu Jairo, the apex court dismissed Ameachi appeal on grounds that the issue of not been given a fair hearing does not arise yet because the panel of enquiry is not a trial over the alleged fraud.

Ameachi dislike for the probe according to him is to witch-hunt him, embarrass him, humiliate him, and to as well disgrace him in view of his political differences with his successor.

Governor Nyesom Wike Constitution of a 7-man panel of enquiry through his Counsel headed by Justice George Omekeji was to look into how N96 billion Naira was allegedly withdrawn from the treasury of the State government and how it was expended.
