Tanker Explosion in Awka was Yesterday Averted Due To Fall, Opposite Anambra Gas Station.

It was a miracle in Anambra State as fire explosion was averted on Wednesday night following sudden fall of a petrol laden tanker at Aguleri junction in Anambra East Local Government Area of Anambra State.

It was reported that the tanker carrying 45,000 litres of flammable contents, fell in front of a gas filling station in the area.

According to eye witnesses, 9news.ng gathered that the crash was as a result of loss of control of the truck in the process of entering the filling station to off load the petroleum product.

Confirming the incident, was Ag. Sector Public Education Officer, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Kamal Musa, “said no injury nor death was recorded.

He said: “A lone minor crash involving a petroleum laden Mack tanker belonging to Ecclesia Oil & Gas Ltd without a registration number was recorded at Aguleri junction along Otuocha road.

“FRSC rescue team from Nteje unit Command were on ground to ensure free flow of traffic while the product was transloaded.

“Also on ground were men of the NPF, FRSC, Army and Fire Service, spraying chemicals to neutralize the effect of inflammable content of the truck.

“However, the truck driver, Mr. Okoro John who was the only one on board came out unhurt.”

Chief Fire Officer, State Fire Service, Engr. Martin Agbili said his team of fire fighters and three fire trucks were quickly deployed to the scene following a distress call.

“With the mixture of water and chemical foam compound, we were are able to control it to a standstill and there was no fire outbreak. There was no loss of life,” he added.
