President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is expected to visit Imo State following a meeting with Governor Hope Uzodinma at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, where both leaders discussed economic growth, infrastructure, security and other strategic initiatives aimed at advancing development in the state.
Although no official date has yet been announced by the Presidency or the Imo State Government, Governor Uzodinma formally invited the President to commission several completed projects, expressing optimism that the visit would further strengthen cooperation between the Federal Government and Imo State.
During the meeting, the governor briefed President Tinubu on key infrastructure projects being executed by his administration, saying they align with the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda by improving connectivity, encouraging investment, promoting inclusive development and creating economic opportunities for residents.
Among the projects expected to be commissioned are the Imo Concorde Hilton Hotel, more than 500 kilometres of reconstructed roads, the Orashi Electricity Power Station in Ohaji-Egbema, the Imo Digital City and other strategic projects undertaken by the state government.
The proposed presidential visit has generated considerable interest across political, business and civic circles in the South-East. Government sources who spoked with 9News said , the commissioning of the projects would provide an opportunity to showcase ongoing infrastructure development while highlighting collaboration between the Federal Government and Imo State.
Governor Uzodinma, who also chairs the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF), has maintained a close working relationship with President Tinubu since the inauguration of the current administration. The relationship has contributed to closer federal-state cooperation on development initiatives in Imo State as 9News gathered.
Despite the economic challenges confronting many Nigerians, residents acknowledge that Imo State has witnessed extensive infrastructure renewal during Governor Uzodinma’s second tenure. In Owerri, major roads have been reconstructed, former roundabouts redesigned to improve traffic flow, and urban renewal projects undertaken, while work continues on the reconstruction of Douglas Road, one of the state’s busiest commercial corridors as reported in our previous publication.
Across several local government areas, road rehabilitation and expansion projects have also improved access to communities and eased transportation. The administration says the investments are intended to stimulate commerce, enhance mobility and support long-term economic growth.
Security has also remained a major focus of the state government. While challenges persist in some areas, officials say sustained collaboration among security agencies and local security structures has contributed to improved stability in many parts of the state.
Politicians believe the President’s proposed visit could also attract party leaders, traditional rulers, business stakeholders and community representatives from across the South-East. They note that such engagements often provide opportunities for discussions on governance, regional development and national issues.
The expected visit comes as political activities gradually increase ahead of the 2027 general election. Analysts say the South-East will remain an important region for all major political parties, making high-level engagements by national leaders closely watched by political stakeholders.
As preparations continue, residents are awaiting an official announcement from the Presidency and the Imo State Government on the date and programme of the proposed visit. Until then, attention remains focused on the landmark projects expected to be commissioned and their significance for Imo State’s development agenda.
