The People’s Democratic Party, PDP in Ebonyi State has raised an alarm over alleged plots by the dissolved Nwebonyi-led group to attack its Party Secretariat using members of the Akubaraoha Youth Assembly, AYA.
Recall that following the order of an Abuja Federal High made by Justice E. I. Ekwo last week in Suit No: FHC/ABJ/CS/1609/2020, the Chairman of the Party in the State, Elder Fred Udeogu had during a World Press Conference in the Party’s National Secretariat in Abuja informed of the willingness and decision of the NWC-appointed Care-Taker Committee which he is the Chairman to duly takeover the Party’s Secretariat located at Kilometre 8 Enugu-Abakaliki Expressway today, being Monday, January 25th.
In a Press Release he made on Monday, Udeogu said, “The attention of the People’s Democratic Party, Ebonyi State has been drawn to the SMS circulating in the State last night, inviting Ebonyi youths under the aegis of Akubaraoha Youths Assembly, (AYA) by Mr. Mark Onu also known as ‘Chopper’ to converge at the Women Development Centre, Ezza Road, Abakaliki for an important information without their normal Akubaraoha vest, today.”
While describing the alleged moves as “the modus operandi of Umahi’s thugs to create crisis in the State, Udeogu claimed, “Last night, Mr. Mark Onu and Onyekachi Nwebonyi led a motley crowd and made a concerted effort to burn down the State Secretariat of the PDP in Abakaliki. If not for the prompt response of some of our members, the building would have been razed down this morning. They were resisted and repelled effectively”, the statement alleged.
He also accused Governor Umahi of not only supporting but being a member of an unmentioned cult group since 2016, alleging that he has been using the said cult group to cause crises and unleash mayhems on innocent Ebonyians.
“Let it be further emphasized that the Governor has been aware of this cult group that is behind the insecurity in the State as he too is a member. He joined them in 2016. There are photographs of him using their unique greetings signs in public- so, it is not a matter for pretence, he is openly showing his affiliation with cultists and he is 100% aware of the planned attack on our Secretariat last night”, Udeogu further alleged.
The erstwhile Board Chairman of ACTDB before the both parted ways in 2019 therefore urged the general public to be vigilant as they go about their normal businesses adding; “the lives of Ebonyians are far too valuable than the insane ambition of any political Party or politicians.”
In a swift reaction, the accused erstwhile Chairman of the PDP in Ebonyi State, Onyekachi Nwebonyi said Udeogu and his cohorts are crying wolf out of desperation.
He said the wishful thinking of occupying the Party’s Secretariat has caused them (the Udeogu-led Care-Taker committee) hysteria and delusional hallucinations.
“Otherwise, how can one get up and begin to make wild allegations on what he conceived in his mind. I have been the Chairman of the PDP in the State for four years and now serving another four years which will elapse in 2024. How can I turn around and burn the complex which is my office. In fact, I am suspecting that Udeogu is nursing the idea of burning down the Secretariat. But if he is planning such, he should refrain from carrying out such devilish act”, he countered, adding that the security agencies are on alert to forestall any such action on the Party’s Secretariat.
