Governor Babagana Umara Zulum announced that the Bama IDP Camp will close within one month.
The camp is the largest IDP camp in Borno outside Maiduguri.
Zulum made the announcement on Thursday after visiting the Government Science Secondary School IDP camp in Bama.
He supervised screening of displaced persons for more than three hours.
The screening was to ensure only genuine households are captured for resettlement.
Zulum said his administration is committed to ending displacement in Bama Local Government Area.
“We are here to examine the remaining displaced people in the IDP camp,” Zulum said, adding that the goal is to ensure closure of the camp.
The exercise is part of efforts to return displaced families to their communities.
The families were displaced for years due to Boko Haram insurgency over the past seven years.
The communities include Darajamal, Nguro Soye, Goniri, Banki, and Abbaram.
Bama was one of the areas worst hit by insurgency, where thousands of residents were displaced from their homes.
Zulum said screening of male households from affected communities is complete.
Efforts are now underway to finish the resettlement process.
Three communities are left to be resettled.
They include Mayanti, Goniri, and Bula Kuriye.
By next month, the Bama IDP camp will be permanently shut down.
