The 9News Nigeria South-South Representative, directed by its Publisher Dr. Obinna Ejianya, has lodged a complaint with the Rivers State Judiciary Commission Of Inquiry. The complaint is regarding the attack on its correspondents during the Local Government Election on October 5th.

The team, which was in Port Harcourt for the election coverage, was attacked in Igwuruta ward 12 in Ikwerre Local Government area. Their equipment was destroyed, a correspondent’s phone was stolen, and the vehicle they were using was damaged.

Ambassador Emmanuel David Atseyinku, the South-South bureau chief who led the team, described the experience as harrowing. He stated that the attackers were allegedly loyalists of Hon. Obinna Ekem, a prominent supporter of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Chief Barrister Nyesom Wike.

Our correspondent has filed a petition with the office of the Rivers State Commissioner of Police and has also submitted a report to the Judiciary Commission Of Inquiry.

As of now, we have not received a response from the Commissioner of Police or the Rivers State Government regarding the attack and the damage to our journalists.
