THESE COMMUNITIES ARE GROUNDED AND THE GOVERNMENT IS CHALLENGED TO RE-CONSTRUCT THEIR ROADS”

Users of AVU/ OBOSIMA/OBOGWE/OHAJI EGBEMA ROAD have decried the present condition of their road and therefore use this medium to plead to the Government of Imo State ably led by Governor Hope Uzodinma to come to their rescue to improve their only major road which has turned out to be a death trap.

While speaking with 9News Nigeria in Owerri, the leaders of these communities expressed bitterness over the bad condition of their road and regretted the delay of the state government and the NDDC to award and re-construct the road.

Regrettably, these areas mentioned above are among the oil region where heavy quantities of Gas and Oil are deposited and mined.

The cry of the residents of these areas moved the 9News Nigeria team of investigation to visit the road.

My facts revealed that many Foreign companies including ShellBP, SEPLAT, WALTER SMITH are presently occupying versed potions of land and mining Gas and Oil from these communities while the people perish for lack of Motorable Road, Electricity and Drinking water till date.

However, the spillage from the deposits in these areas has destroyed many FARMLANDS, RIVERS and rendered the people HUNGRY.

Recall that the road is the major connecting road from Avu Owerri West to Ohaji Egbema and Rivers State. The road also connects the popular ADAPALM towards Assah and Awara region.

At the Avu area, the road has cut off several villages several months ago and at the time of this report, no atom of remedial work was seen on the road. Also, I found out that the heavy ditch along the Avu area was caused by the unplanned construction of the road and shops built along the waterways.

Towards OBOGWE and AMAFOR area, there is no single good road to ply on and the people are crying tough to the NDDC and the Imo State Government to come to their immediate aid.

Therefore, it is not a charade but a condition of pain and injury set upon the people of these areas mentioned above and Imo state in- large because of the deadly decay of the road.

Meanwhile, the quantity of Gas and Oil exploration in these communities can be able to quantify the value of money to mobilize Contractors to commence work on the road.

But it is a show of shame to the state government and NDDC for allowing such a busy route to go grounded. Another shame goes to the Ministry of Works and FERMA whose major assignment is to maintain these roads.

Moreso, I was stocked up on this particular road while plying the route a few hours before the news.

The question is, Was there no discussion between the leaders of these communities and the oil companies before the mining commenced?

And if so, why has the road that leads to such multi-million naira companies and a FEDERAL COLLEGE of lands resources be left aloof?
