The Federal Executive Council, FEC, has awarded contract for the construction of 2×30 MVA 132/33 power sub-stations in Ibiono Ibom local government area of Akwa Ibom State.
The project awarded to Messrs YEMEC West Africa Limited has both onshore and offshore components.
The offshore component will cost US$6.2 million (N2.540 billion) while the onshore component is approved for N1.8 billion.
The contract sum for the substation project is N4.34 billion.
The Federal Executive Council (FEC) also approved the construction of 2x60MVA in Jigawa state, Minister of Power, Mr. Sale Mamman, announced award of the contract after a FEC meeting in Abuja.
Mr. Mamman said, “FEC approved award of the contract for the engineering, procurement and construction of 2×30 MVA 132/33 substation at Ibiono Ibom, Akwa Ibom State in favour of Messrs YEMEC West Africa Limited in the sum of US$6.2 million offshore plus N1.8 billion onshore.”
Speaking with journalists in Uyo last weekend, Senior Special Adviser to the President on Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Ita Enang, thanked the President and the FEC for approving contract for the project.
Enang said he proposed the substation project to the federal government in 2017.
“The power sub-station will service Ibiono Ibom, Ikono, Ini, Itu, part of Ikot Ekpene and Uyo local government areas.”
“The sub-station was proposed to relieve the power sub-station at Ikot Akpan Itam.”
“I am happy that my President, Muhammadu Buhari and the federal executive council has awarded contract for the sub-station project. I proposed the project in 2017 and when it was approved I was sent a notification which referenced my letter of request for the project.”
Senator Enang said he will brief leaders of the community that will be affected by the project soon.
