The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, says it will collaborate with the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, in addressing electoral misconduct.
Executive Chairman of the Commission, Abdulrasheed Bawa, speaking at a one-day workshop organised for journalists in port Harcourt, said the move is to preserve the integrity of the electoral process.
Bawa represented by the Commander EFCC PH, Nwaneka Nwokike, assured that the commission is committed to enforcing the electoral act against political parties and their agents involved in vote buying.
He said ” we are working in close collaboration with the independent national electoral commission, and other stakeholders to preserve the integrity of the electoral process. We will ensure that the electoral act is fully enforced and those who seek to influence voters through financial inducements are brought to justice”
Bawa acknowledged the contribution of the media in the fight against financial crimes, soliciting more support to rid society of financial crimes.
He explained that the workshop is designed to interact with the media on critical issues as it concerns the prosecution of financial crimes amongst others.
“We believe the media have greater roles to play as we intensify the fight against cybercrimes, illicit financial flows and money laundering which continue to deny our nation the essential resources to tackle matters of national development”
