Teenager bags 6 months jail term, fined N50,000 for stealing phone in Plateau

A teenager, Hassan Faruk, has been convicted and sentenced by Jos Area Court to six months imprisonment for stealing a cellphone valued at N120,000 in Jos, Plateau State.

The teenager was tried before a Judge Shawomi Bokkos, sentenced Faruk, 18, on Monday September 23, 2024, after pleading guilty to the charge preferred against him and and prayed the Court for leniency, Bokkos also gave the convict, a mechanic, an option of N50,000 fine.

The prosecutor, Inspector Ibrahim Gokwat, told the Court that the complainant, Umar Isa, reported the case at the Angwan Rogo Police Station on May 15, 2024, explaining that the convict trespassed into the complainants’ room and stole his phone valued at N120,000.

He says during the Police investigation, the convict confessed of having committed the offence and the phone was recovered from him.
