Life often presents us with challenges that feel insurmountable, as if we are facing a mountain we cannot climb. In these moments, despair can creep in, making it seem as though there is no hope for revival or restoration. We cry out for divine intervention, yearning for immediate answers, yet it can feel as though God is silent or delayed. However, the truth remains: God will never be late in your case. No matter how dire your situation may appear, God is at work, weaving everything together for our good. The Bible assures us that the hopes of the righteous will never be dashed, and the deepest desires of their hearts will be fulfilled, bringing them complete joy.

The Case of Lazarus

Let’s reflect on the story of Lazarus. When Jesus learned that Lazarus was sick, He already knew the outcome of this illness. He understood that Lazarus’s sickness would lead to his death, yet He also knew that He would ultimately raise Lazarus from the dead. This miracle would demonstrate God’s unchanging power to bring life, just as He did in the days of Elijah and Elisha. God is the same yesterday, today, and forever; what He accomplished in the past, He can and will do again.

In John 11:21-22, we find Martha expressing her grief to Jesus after her brother’s death. She says, “Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died. But I know that even now God will give you whatever you ask.” Martha’s words resonate with a universal human sentiment: the belief that if God had acted sooner, circumstances might have turned out differently. Yet even in her sorrow, her faith shines brightly as she acknowledges that God can still work miracles, even in the face of death.

Key Lessons from Martha’s Faith

  1. Acknowledgment of Delay: Martha recognizes the delay in Jesus’ arrival but does not succumb to hopelessness.
  2. Faith in God’s Power: Despite her grief, she firmly believes that God can still intervene and change the situation.
  3. Trust in Divine Timing: Martha’s faith illustrates that God’s timing is perfect, even when it appears late to us.

Understanding God’s Timing

The Apostle Paul reassures us in Romans 8:28, stating, “All things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.” This verse reminds us that God has a grand plan, and even when we cannot see it, He is orchestrating events for our ultimate benefit.

In 2 Peter 3:9, we read, “The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness; but is longsuffering toward us.” This verse emphasizes that God’s delays are not denials. He is patient, desiring that all come to repentance and grasp the fullness of His grace.

Ecclesiastes 3:11 affirms, “He has made everything beautiful in its time.” This reassures us that God’s timing is perfect for every aspect of our lives. We may not understand the reasons for our waiting, but we can trust that He is at work, preparing something beautiful.

Psalm 30:5b reminds us, “Weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning.” This encapsulates the hope we find in Christ. No matter how bleak our circumstances may seem, God promises that joy will come.

A Message of Hope

  • Temporary Trials: Our current struggles are just that—temporary—and they will not last forever.
  • Hope for the Future: God promises restoration and joy, even after our darkest moments.
  • Faith in His Goodness: We can trust in God’s goodness and know that He will fulfill His promises.

When we find ourselves in situations that seem hopeless, let us remember the story of Martha and Lazarus. God is never late; He is always on time. His timing may not align with our expectations, but it is perfect. We can hold fast to the promises found in Scripture, knowing that God is working all things together for our good.

Let us cultivate a faith like Martha’s—one that acknowledges our feelings but ultimately trusts in God’s power and timing. No matter how desperate the situation may seem, God has the power to turn it around for the good of His beloved. Let this truth be a source of encouragement and strength in your life today.
