The Borno State government has said that it has disbursed N987m to 7,716 traders affected by the September flood disaster in Maiduguri.

The chairman of the Flood Disaster Relief Disbursement Committee, Baba Gujbawu, disclosed this on Saturday at the cheque presentation ceremony in Maiduguri.

It can be recalled the state government had gathered billions of Naira as interventions from different governmental bodies and philanthropists across the nation and beyond.

According to Mr Gujbawu the committee had spent the last two months verifying and distributing relief items to affected households in Maiduguri Metropolitan, Jere, and Mafa Local Government Areas.

He added that traders from nine major markets in the state were also reached, listing them as; Gamboru Market, Monday Market, Tashan Damboa, Metro Plaza, El-kanemi, Vegetable Market, Customs Market, Moromoro Vegetable Market, Bukar Shuibu, and Budum Market.

Gujbawu explained that the beneficiaries were categorized based on the extent of damage to their businesses, which ranged from minimal and partial to total loss, adding that the funds would be credited directly to the traders’ bank accounts.
