NEMA Visits Enugu State To Disburse FG Intervention Items To Ugwu Onyeama Accident Victims

Federal Government of Nigeria led by His Excellency President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, has released National Emergency Management Intervention materials to the families of the recent tanker fire explosion in the state.

9News Nigeria reports that Ugwu Onyeama was turned into horrible state of agony on that faithful day when a tanker loaded will flammable content was ignited and hundreds of victims died and so many rushed to the hospital same day.

It is obvious that the disaster claimed many lives of Enugu citizens and innocent residents and some visitors plying that same road in day time when the tanker as gutted by inferno as 9News reports.

This delivery was received by His Excellency Governor Peter Mbah from the Director-General of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Mrs Zubaida Umar, and her team.

Mrs Zubaida and her team Tuesday afternoon flagged off the distribution of emergency intervention items to the victims of the devastating tanker fire incident that occurred on Saturday at Ugwu Onyeama along the Enugu-Onitsha expressway.

Receiving the intervention items, Governor Peter Mbah stated that while Enugu state continues to mourn the lives lost and support the survivors, it is important to address the root cause of such disasters.

The Governor further reiterated, the enforcement of anti-spill locks on fuel tankers carrying inflammable products must be prioritised for safety reasons.

This measure according to Peter Mbah will significantly reduce the risk of spills that ignite and lead to avoidable tragedies.

While calling on law enforcement agencies, particularly the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), to ensure the strict enforcement of this safety requirement across the country, the Governor assured that in the meantime, his administration is fully committed to providing the necessary care and support to those affected by the tragic incident.

He added that Enugu state government is bearing the medical bills of all survivors currently receiving treatment at the National Orthopaedic Hospital, Enugu; the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital (UNTH), Ituku-Ozalla; and the Enugu State University of Science and Technology Hospital, Park Lane.

The Governor however appreciated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and NEMA for their swift response, empathy, and partnership during this challenging time.

He promised that the relief materials provided will go a long way in bringing succour to the affected families, and we remain grateful for this demonstration of federal and sub-national collaboration.

Contributing to thank FG on the intervention, Joseph Efido okoro kindly made an appeal to Governor Mbah to ban trucks and other large vehicles from operating in all areas of Enugu during daytime hours.

He expressed sadness over the frequent loss of lives caused by fire incidents and accidents involving these vehicles and pleaded with the government to please take this crucial step to ensure the safety and well-being of our people.

Another concerned citizens of Enugu State Nigeria called for state of Emergency should to be declared on Tankers spilling its content on our roads Your Excellency. This lives lost so far as a result is becoming unbearable.

He also appreciated the effort of Governor Mbah for his promise to do something about the Ugwu Onyeama section of the Enugu – Onitsha expressway.

Others who spoke to 9News Nigeria suggested to His Excellency Peter Mbah, that it is high time to remove that military check point from that hill of Ugwu Onyeama for the better of motorists coming from 9th mile and similarly construction of over head bridge no matter the huge cost of construction work it will take but to save lives.

Some families affected regretted such a day in their lifetime where hundreds of people just perished by a petrol tanker that fell while ascending the Hill.

Many Nigerians and mostly those from the South East States Ave condemned such incident that would have been averted by some minor application of carefulness and discipline on our roads. Nigeria truly mourn the souls that departed from such a horrible inferno while praying for their families and those that sustained several degrees of injury to take heart.
