Minister for Youth Development, Comrade Ayodele Olawande, has received a German delegation from the IHK Giessen-Friedberg Chambers of Commerce and Industry.
The delegation was led by the former Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed.
The former Minister stated that the objective of the visit was to strengthen Nigeria’s economic ties with Germany, and to explore opportunities for investment and job creation; with emphasis on vocational training, skill migration, and business development.
The Chief Executive Officer of the Chamber, Dr. Matthias Leder proposed a collaboration in two key areas; Dual Educational Vocational Programs (DEVP) and legal labor migration.
The DEVP aims to eradicate unemployment and create an enabling environment for young Nigerians to acquire skills and gain practical experience, which is critical in addressing the challenges of youth unemployment and restiveness in Nigeria.
Legal Labour Migration, on the other hand, is aimed at ensuring a safer working environment for Nigerian youth plying their trade on German soil.
The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Youth Development, Mr. Olubunmi Olusanya welcomed the collaboration, noting its potential to provide job opportunities and dignity for young Nigerians.
Olawande, in his response, expressed appreciation to Alhaji Lai Mohammed for his continuous efforts towards creating an enabling environment for youth development.
He commended the initiative, highlighting its alignment with the Nigerian Youth Academy’s objectives.
The Youth Minister also reiterated that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration is open to public-private partnerships for economic growth and development, while emphasizing the need for immediate action and expressed his readiness to move forward with the partnership.
“We are committed to creating an enabling environment for young Nigerians to thrive. We believe that this partnership will drive economic growth, reduce unemployment, and promote peace and stability in our country,” Olawande stated.
