Ekaette Onoma Akpabio, wife of the President the Senate President of Nigeria, Goodswill Obot Akpabio, has filed multiple lawsuits against Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, the Senator representing Kogi Central over alleged defamatory comments.

On Friday, February 28, 2025, Akpoti-Uduaghan, in an interview on Arise TV, alleged that the Senate President made several sexual advances at her in his office and residence in Akwa Ibom.

The wife of the Senate President had responded by saying her husband is disciplined man who loves and respects his family, citing his track record in supporting women’s inclusion in government even before his emergence as the President of the Senate, adding that the Senator’s claims were “lies”.

In a fundamental rights suit filed at the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court, Ekaette said the “scandalous and salacious” comments made by Akpoti-Uduaghan have cause her and her children “emotional and psychological abuse”.

Akpabio’s wife asked the Court to restrain Akpoti-Uduaghan from making further “spiteful” statements that infringe on her fundamental rights.

In the first Suit on fundamental rights violation (Suit No CV/814/25), Mrs Akpabio accused the Senator of making false and scandalous statements that caused emotional trauma for her children, leaving them in fear of their lives.

She asked the Court to declare the statements a violation of her rights and dignity under the Constitution and the African Charter on Human and People’s Rights.

Mrs Akpabio is also seeking for N250 billion in compensation and perpetual injunction to stop Akpoti-Uduaghan from making further damaging claims.

In a separate defamation Suit No CV/816/25, Mrs Akpabio challenged Akpoti-Uduaghan’s claims that her husband made sexual advances towards her, describing the allegation as “false, malicious and damaging”, saying they had brought her family into disrepute and public shame.

As part of her demands, Mrs Akpabio asked the Court to order Akpoti-Uduaghan to issue public apology in two national newspapers and pay N1 billion damages.
