A former minister of defence, Theophilus Danjuma has called on Nigerians, especially the people of Taraba State – his home state – to rise up and defend themselves against kidnappers.

Danjuma while speaking in Takum Local Government Area of Taraba state, urged the people to take charge of their safety as the government cannot do it alone.

“I know we have a lot of problems, including security, as recently as two or three days ago.

“We have experienced kidnapping, the threat of kidnapping will continue until we, every one of us, rise up and defend ourselves,” Danjuma said.

Citing the recent attacks, kidnappings and killings of Nigerians across the country, the former military General said, now is the time for the people to protect themselves and their families.

“It is quite clear the government alone cannot do it. I have warned a very long time ago, in a speech in Wukari, that our people must be prepared to defend themselves.
