Jos — The Plateau State Government has ordered the temporary closure of all public and private primary and secondary schools across the state from Monday September 7, 2026 following suspected diphtheria cases reported in parts of Jos North, Wase, Jos South and Bassa Local Government Areas.

The directive, signed by the Commissioner for Information and Communication, Rt. Hon. Joyce Lohya Ramnap, affects schools that have already resumed academic activities are also directed to close until further notice.

The government urged parents, teachers, school proprietors and guardians to comply with the directive as health authorities take preventative measures.

The government said the measure is aimed at protecting pupils, students, teaching and non-teaching staff while health authorities continue to assess the situation.

According to the government, a new date for academic activities will be communicated to the public in due course.
