The Commandant-General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Ahmed Audi, on Friday formally bowed out of service after attaining the mandatory retirement age and completing his tenure.
Audi marked his final day in office during activities commemorating the 2026 World Civil Defence Day at the NSCDC National Headquarters in Abuja.
9news Nigeria reports that Audi assumed office on March 1, 2021, following his appointment by former President Muhammadu Buhari.
His exit brings to an end nearly five years of leadership at the helm of the paramilitary agency, which is charged with the protection of critical national assets and infrastructure, as well as disaster management and civil defence responsibilities.
As of the time of filing this report, the Federal Government had yet to announce his successor.
Audi’s retirement coincided with the observance of World Civil Defence Day, an annual event that highlights the importance of civil protection and emergency response services.
Colleagues and senior officers gathered at the headquarters to celebrate the occasion, which also doubled as a symbolic send-off for the outgoing Commandant-General.
Born on September 30, 1967, Audi hails from Nasarawa State. He holds a PhD in Public Administration from Nasarawa State University, Keffi, and a Master’s degree in Public Business Administration from the University of Calabar.
He is also a member of the National Institute (mni), a prestigious professional recognition in Nigeria’s public service.
With his departure, attention has now shifted to the Federal Government’s next move in appointing a new leader for the NSCDC, as stakeholders await an official announcement in the coming days.
