…HONOURS LEADERS AT HISTORIC 16TH Executive Council INAUGURATION



The Akwa Ibom Community Abuja, the umbrella body representing Akwa Ibom indigenes across the Federal Capital Territory and the 19 Northern States, hosted a grand and history-making ceremony that combined unity, tradition, and visionary leadership. The event featured a high-profile Grand Reception, the inauguration of the 16th Executive Council, and the unveiling of the community’s flagship project, the Ibom Bowl
Described as one of the most unifying gatherings in recent times, the occasion brought together leaders, technocrats, political figures, and community members from across the country, celebrating a renewed spirit of solidarity and purpose.


Chairman of the National Salaries and Wages Commission, Barr. Ekpo Nta, who chaired the event, applauded the resilience and organizational strength of Akwa Ibom people in the FCT. He described the community as a *pace-setter in community service and development*. He further commended the strategic foresight behind the Ibom Bowl project and called for collective support to ensure its full realization.


Representing the President of the 10th Senate, Distinguished Senator Godswill Obot Akpabio, GCON, Dr. Patrick Umoh conveyed the Senate President’s appreciation for the unity and vision demonstrated by Akwa Ibom people in Abuja. He assured the community of his unwavering support for all developmental initiatives.




The Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Eno, PhD, represented by TPL Aniekan Ubong Akpan (Permanent Secretary), lauded the harmony and togetherness displayed by indigenes from all 10 Federal Constituencies. He emphasized that the community’s spirit of oneness aligns perfectly with the ARISE Agenda, describing it as a model for diaspora engagement.
Senator Ekong Sampson (Eket Senatorial District) praised the Mkpisong (Barr.) Gabriel Fan-led leadership for deepening unity across the community. He noted that the massive turnout reflected the strength and identity of the Akwa Ibom people in the FCT.
Leader of the Akwa Ibom House of Representatives Caucus, Rt. Hon. Paul Ekpo, speaking on behalf of lawmakers, hailed the community’s steadfastness and organizational prowess. He pledged the full legislative backing of National Assembly Members toward the realization of the Ibom Bowl vision.
The highlight of the event was the unveiling of the bom Bowl (Usan Ibom), an ambitious cultural and administrative complex situated in Jahi District. The edifice is envisioned to become the official home of Akwa Ibom heritage in the Federal Capital Territory, serving as a venue for cultural activities, leadership engagements, community gatherings, and strategic development programs.
The project, leaders say, will stand as a generational symbol of unity and a testament to the resilience of Akwa Ibom indigenes in Abuja.
A series of prestigious awards were presented to distinguished personalities who have demonstrated exceptional leadership at state and national levels. Honorees included:
* Dist. Senator Godswill O. Akpabio, GCON – Award of Excellence in legislative Service
* His Excellency Pastor Umo Eno, PhD – Governor of Akwa Ibom State-rGrand Patron & Award of Excellence.
* National Assembly Members – Award of Excellence in Legislative Service
* Federal Government Appointees – Award of Excellence in Public Service
* Political Appointees – Award of Political Excellence & Patriotic Service
These recognitions highlighted outstanding contributions to governance, national development, and community advancement.




In the spirit of capacity building, women from all 10 Federal Constituencies were showcased after completing empowerment programs sponsored by philanthropist Emem Everett under the trainer, Chef Emem . A financial empowerment presentation session by the permanent secretary TPL Aniekan Ubong Akpan on behalf of Comrade Kingsley Iwok, SA to the Governor on Mobilization, further energized the gathering.
The community, through the SA to the governor on mobilization, also recognized cultural advocate Nneme Ukanyin (Israel Bassey) for his dedication to promoting Akwa Ibom dialect and heritage in the FCT.





The inauguration of the 16th Executive Council marked a defining moment, ushering in a leadership committed to expanding the community’s vision and strengthening its institutional framework.
In his inaugural speech, President Mkpisong (Barr.) Gabriel Fan described the event as the beginning of a new era where “vision meets fulfilment, and history embraces the future.” He emphasized the community’s commitment to preserving culture, empowering youths, supporting women, and upholding the dignity of elders.
He highlighted key challenges facing the community, calling for strategic interventions:
* Need for a permanent and spacious meeting venue
* Government subvention to reduce financial pressure on members
* Acquisition of a new 32-seater community bus to replace the outdated 2011 model
* Provision of an official vehicle for the Office of the President
* Inclusion of Akwa Ibom Community Abuja in state-level appointments and policy structures
* Government support in securing and developing the Ibom Bowl to prevent recurring threats of revocation
He appealed to Governor Umo Eno to facilitate the construction of the planned twin towers at Ibom Bowl, a legacy project that would become a source of pride for the state. He finally pledged in loyalty to the course of Arise Agenda of the governor through collaboration and partnership.
The ceremony concluded with a vibrant display of Akwa Ibom cultural heritage, traditional dances, indigenous cuisines, and artistic showcases that reflected the richness and diversity of the state’s identity.
With the inauguration of the 16th Executive Council and the unveiling of the Ibom Bowl, the Akwa Ibom Community Abuja has set a new benchmark for diaspora organization and cultural diplomacy. The event marked not just a milestone, but a renewed commitment to unity, development, and the advancement of future generations.
