UMUAHIA—A 2019 presidential aspirant under the platform the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Alhaji Sule Lamido has lashed out at the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, alleging it lacks the capacity to keep Nigeria united.

According him, APC members are amateurs learning on the job, adding there is no way they could give Nigerians the leadership and direction they deserve. Lamido, a former governor of Jigawa State, who spoke in Umuahia, when he visited Governor Okezie Ikpeazu and the state leadership of the party to inform them of his intention to run for the presidency in 2019, solicited their support to achieve his dream. Castigating the ruling APC as a party without vision, Alhaji Lamido urged Nigerians to vote the party out in 2019 for a new lease of life, assuring that the country under his stewardship would ensure that peace reigns everywhere. Condemning the spate of killings going on in the country, he lamented that under the watch of the APC government, Nigeria has been turned into a human abattoir, saying the APC as a party is “only good at propaganda”.

“There is killing and bloodshed everywhere in Nigeria. How long will this continue? APC has no capacity to lead. They are people learning on the job. Amateurs have taken over Nigeria. “What APC is doing is shameful. They don’t have the political sagacity to lead Nigeria. If given the opportunity, I will perform because I have the heart and the commitment”, Lamido said. According to the presidential hopeful, instead of providing good governance for Nigerians, the APC government is busy persecuting members of the opposition. “They demonise us but we know what they are doing, from NNPC to Maina, and other atrocities. Because they are wonderful liars, they cover their evil deeds,” he lamented. Lamido who said he is one of the surviving members of the “G9” politicians and eminent Nigerians that opposed the late military ruler, Gen. Sani Abacha, assured that he has what it takes to direct Nigeria aright. End herdsmen problem The former governor called on patriotic Nigerians to unite again and take over power from APC in 2019 so as to save Nigeria’s democracy from dying. He assured that if elected president, he would quickly address the herdsmen and other security challenges currently bedeviling the country.

On clamour for restructuring, Lamido said that “if there is good governance, there won’t be need for any agitation in the country.” In his remarks, Governor Okezie Ikpeazu thanked Lamido for his visit. He said that Nigeria is indeed in dire need of detribalised patriots to salvage the country which he lamented was at the brink of disintegration. “We are at a point where we must make or mar our nation. Wherever we want to go, there are consequences and prices to pay. “Nobody believes APC government anymore. We are in dire need of people who can be trusted, leaders who can galvanize the best brains to move Nigeria forward,” Ikpeazu said.
