BAFTA announces new category for children

The British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) has announced a new award category for best children’s and family film. 

The new award category will “celebrate the very best films appealing to intergenerational audiences” and films that have a certificate rating of U, PG or 12A will be eligible for the award.

According to BAFTA, the new category will be awarded from 2025 at the ceremony in February.

BAFTA added that the children’s category will “profile the essential creative contributions of the children’s media sector.”
