
The Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, has intercepted 39,425 litres of smuggled petroleum products and eight vehicles used for their transportation, valued at N63.425 million.
The seizures, were made by the Customs Operation Whirlwind across the Lagos and Ogun axis, with the petroleum products destined for neigbouring countries, including Benin Republic.
National Coordinator of Operation Whirlwind, across Ejibunu, disclosed that the interceptions were made at various smuggling flashpoints in Ilaro, Imeko, Badagry, Owode, Ajilete, and surrounding areas.
A total of 1,577 jerry cans of premium motor spirit, each containing 25 litres, were seized, along with eight vehicles used as means of converge.
The duty-paid value of the seized fuel stood at N39.4 million, while the vehicles valued at N24 million.
Ejibunu assured that NCS will continue to clampdown on illicit activities, and acknowledged the support of key partners, including the Office of the National Security Adviser and the Nigerian Midstreams and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority.
