The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Olanipekun Olukoyede has called on Nigerians to exercise restraint and avoid rushing to condemn former militant leader, Government Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo, over a viral video purportedly showing him abusing the Nigerian currency.
Speaking to reporters, the EFCC Chairman described the footage as a “mere allegation,” stressing the need for a thorough and unbiased investigation before drawing conclusions.
He revealed that the commission has already subjected the video to forensic analysis to determine its authenticity.
“These days, people can create such videos using advanced AI technology,” he noted, adding that modern tools can easily generate manipulated content.
He further appealed to the public not to engage in character assassination based on unverified claims, emphasizing the principle of fair hearing.
“Let’s give him a fair hearing. Nigerians should not condemn Tompolo without credible evidence,” the EFCC boss stated.
