Former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, has dismissed speculation about his defection to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), categorically stating that he will never join the opposition party.
Speaking in an interview with Arise TV on Monday night, El-Rufai addressed recent rumors linking him to the PDP after he was spotted with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and other opposition figures.
While reaffirming his membership in the All Progressives Congress (APC), he expressed dissatisfaction with the party’s current trajectory and hinted at the possibility of exploring alternatives if necessary.
“I don’t know where I will end up if the APC doesn’t come back to where we started. But one thing I can tell you for sure is that PDP is not a party that I will go to, ever. I have thought about that. I’ve decided that long ago, and nothing has changed. In fact, if anything, PDP has gotten worse—rule out PDP,” he declared.
The former governor suggested that if the APC fails to realign with its founding principles, he might consider joining the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
El-Rufai also weighed in on President Bola Tinubu’s administration, clarifying that he is not opposed to the government but has concerns regarding certain policy decisions and appointments.
“I am surprised some people call me a critic of Tinubu’s government. I have never said anything against the government,” he stated.
However, he confirmed that President Tinubu personally rejected his nomination for a ministerial position, not the National Assembly.
