The Majority Leader and Leader of the Imo State House of Assembly (IMHA), Rt. Hon. Chief Kanayo Onyemaechi, has donated ₦500,000 towards the reconstruction of the historic Nkwonunuyo Market in Umuoma Nekede, Owerri West Local Government Area of Imo State.
The launching attracted a lot of community stakeholders , political class, clergy, women and youth leaders in Owerri West. Organized by the Apex leadership, Umuoma People’s Assembly UPA Umuoma Nekede autonomous community, its executives joined hands with the organizing committee led by Ifeanyi Emmanuel to deliver a successful story that recorded huge donations.
Rt. Hon. Onyemaechi made his usual benevolent donation alongside others during the fundraising ceremony Saturday , organised by the Umuoma People’s Assembly (UPA) to revive the once-thriving market. He also presented an additional ₦50,000 to the Umuoma women in appreciation of their support for the community development initiative.

The lawmaker, who is the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the forthcoming 2027 Owerri West State Constituency election, received applause from participants, who described his contribution as a demonstration of his continued support for grassroots development.
Community leaders said the donation would further encourage efforts to restore Nkwonunuyo Market as a major commercial hub capable of creating jobs, boosting rural trade and stimulating economic activities across Owerri West and neighbouring communities.
As Majority Leader of the Imo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Onyemaechi is widely regarded by colleagues and stakeholders as an influential member of the legislature, where he has continued to play a key role in advancing legislative business and supporting government policies.
