The Abdullahi Fodio University of Science and Technology (AFUSTA), Aliero, Kebbi, has awarded degrees, diplomas and certificates to a total of 7,221 graduands.
9news Nigeria reports that the awardees were graduands from 2010/2011 to 2023/2024 academic sessions.
The Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Danshehu Bagudu, stated this at the maiden combined convocation ceremony of the institution held in Aliero on Saturday.
He said that the convocation coincided with 19 years of sustained academic activities at AFUSTA and marks a historic milestone as the first convocation since the establishment of the university.
“This maiden convocation coincides with 19 years of sustained academic activities at AFUSTA and represents the first in the history of the university,” Bagudu said.
The V-C said that since his assumption of office about 16 months ago, his administration had focused on repositioning AFUSTA to be one of the first-class university, not only in Nigeria but globally, in line with the developmental aspirations of the state and the nation at large.
Earlier, the Chancellor of the university and Emir of Yauri, Dr Muhammad Zayyanu-Abdullahi, expressed gratitude to the state government for finding him worthy of the appointment.
“I assure you that I will do everything within my capacity to contribute meaningfully to the growth and development of this university,” he said.
The chancellor, who described education as fundamental to societal development, also commended the state government for its commitment to transforming the education sector.
On his part, Gov. Nasir Idris of Kebbi, lauded the achievements recorded by the university since its inception in 2006, noting that AFUSTA had made significant contributions to manpower development in the state and beyond.
The governor assured the university community of his administration’s continued commitment to prioritising education for sustainable growth and development in the state.
9news Nigeria reports that the convocation ceremony also featured the formal investiture of the Chancellor, Dr Muhammad Zayyanu-Abdullahi, as well as the conferment of honorary doctorate degrees on eminent Nigerians.
Those honoured included; Gov. Idris, Doctor of Education, Gov. Ahmed Aliyu of Sokoto State, Doctor of Technology and Gov. Dauda Lawal of Zamfara, Doctor of Science.
Others were; Gov. Hope Uzodinma of Imo State, who was conferred with a Doctor of Engineering degree, and the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III, who received a Doctor of Computer Science degree, among others.
