Nigerian Woman In Trouble After Destroying Husband’s International Passport, NIS Releases Statement (Photos)

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) on Sunday, August 11, announced that it has commenced an investigation into the shredding of a travel passport by a female traveller at the Murtala Muhammad International Airport in Lagos.

In a statement signed by DCI KT Udo obtained by 9News Nigeria, the service’s public relations officer for the Headquarters in Abuja and shared on its official X account, the NIS said it has launched a formal investigation following the circulation of a video on social media.

Over the weekend a viral video showed a female traveller destroying her husband’s Nigerian Standard Passport at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos.

The woman seemingly angry said in pidgin, “na me tear am”.

She further takes her two children away from her husband who appears confused.

She continued while walking away, “Bring my children out for me. If you want to sleep there, you sleep there. Come and go. This is Nigeria. Na here you dey.”

The action by the woman was witnessed by airport officials including immigration personnel who watched her walk away while onlookers pacified the man to remain calm.

The video also showed the torn passport littered on the floor of the airport as the man made a move to gathered what was remained of his travel document.

However, in the statement, Udo said the individual (the woman) has been identified and invited for further investigation.

He added, “If the allegations are substantiated, her actions would have constituted a breach of Section 10(b) of the Immigration Act 2015 (as amended), with corresponding penalties outlined under Section 10(h) of the same Act.

“The Nigeria Immigration Service remains steadfast in its commitment to upholding the provisions of the Immigration Act in the interest of national security, and to preserving the dignity and integrity of the nation’s legal instruments.”

The statement by the NIS comes after a series of outrage by Nigerians on social media.
