The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has debunked viral claims that Corps NYSC Ushie Rita Uguamaye, popularly known as “Raye” was denied her Certificate of National Service because she criticized President Bola Tinubu administration.
In a statement on Sunday August 10, 2025, the NYSC described the allegation as false and baseless, insisting that the delay in her Certificate is purely procedural.
According to the Scheme, Ms Ushie is one of the 131 Corps Members whose certificates were withheld over various infractions. In her case, NYSC said her service year was extended by two months because she failed to attend the April 2025 biometric clearance exercise, an offence punishable under the NYSC bye-laws.
“The extension is standard procedure and not unique to her case. The principle of equal treatment was applied as it is in all similar situations”, the statement explained.

The management urged the public to assess the matter objectively and avoid politicizing it, noting that such extensions for non-compliance have been a longstanding tradition in the scheme’s operation.
“The NYSC remain committed to discharging its mandate inline with dictates of the Constitution”, the statement added, while reaffirming its pledge to fairness, discipline, and its guiding slogan: Nigeria Is Ours, Nigeria We Serve.
Raye, with service code – LA/24B/ 8325, went viral earlier this year after a TikTok video in which she described Lagos as “smelling” and criticized the Tinubu- led government.
The clip sparked heavy backlash, forcing her to tender apology for her utterances.
