Troops of the 17 Brigade have arrested a suspected military impostor during a fighting patrol in Malumfashi Local Government Area of Katsina State.
The suspect was apprehended at about 1:30 p.m. on July 4, 2026, by troops stationed at the Forward Operating Base (FOB), Malumfashi, while carrying out a routine patrol within the town.
According to the military, the suspect drew attention after he was spotted wearing a woodland camouflage three-quarter short, promoting security personnel to stop and question him.

A search conducted on the suspect led to the recovery of fake Nigerian Army identity card, four Automated Teller Machines, (ATM) cards, a woodland camouflage three-quarter short, a wristwatch, and N17,000 in cash.
The suspect, along the recovered items, has been taken into military custody and is undergoing further investigation.
Military authorities said the arrest is part of ongoing efforts to combat the impersonation of security personnel and other criminal activities across the state. They stressed that individuals posing as members of the armed forces pose a significant threat to national security, noting that criminals wearing military uniforms have been linked to cases of kidnapping, armed robbery, and attacks on communities.

The military reaffirmed its commitment to identifying and prosecuting impostors while urging members of the public to report suspicious individuals impersonating security personnel.
