United States President Donald Trump has threatened a fresh wave of military strikes against Iran, warning that Washington would hit the country “very hard” and eventually take control of critical oil infrastructure, including the strategic Kharg Island export terminal.
In a post on Truth Social on Thursday, Trump claimed that much of Iran’s military capability had already been destroyed and vowed further attacks against the country.
He also declared that the United States could assume control of Iran’s oil and gas markets, specifically mentioning Kharg Island, the country’s main crude export hub.
The statement marks one of Trump’s strongest remarks yet amid escalating tensions involving the United States, Israel, and Iran, raising fears of a wider regional conflict.
Kharg Island handles the majority of Iran’s oil exports and has historically shipped around two million barrels of crude daily, representing roughly two percent of global oil supply, with China serving as a major buyer.
Iran has not officially responded to Trump’s latest comments, but its Foreign Ministry earlier stated that a ceasefire reached in April had effectively collapsed following recent U.S. military actions.
Despite the ongoing conflict, Iranian and Western sources indicated that indirect talks between Washington and Tehran are continuing, with discussions reportedly focused on unresolved issues such as frozen Iranian assets.
The latest escalation follows recent military exchanges, including U.S. strikes on Iranian targets and retaliatory attacks by Iran against American military facilities across the region, including sites in Bahrain, Kuwait, and Jordan.
Global oil prices rose after Trump’s remarks, as investors grew concerned that further confrontation could disrupt energy supplies and increase volatility in international oil markets.
