Imo state Special Intervention on Evacuation of Refuse has stormed Umudibia Autonomous community in Owerri West local government area of Imo state Nigeria.
Their mission was targetted at evacuation of heaps cum mountains of refuse deposited at Primary School Umudibia and a hazardous refuse dump located between Nekede secondary school area and Riverside bus stop.
This intervention came as a result of calls put across to the Government of Imo state under the leadership of His Excellency Governor Hope Uzodinma through the Traditional Ruler HRH Eze Godwin Merenini, Dibia one of Umudibia Autonomous community.
Speaking at the refuse dump Tuesday 16-08-2022, Eze Godwin Merenini commended Governor Uzodinma for the speedy approval of his letter of intervention and thanked the evacuation team for such an immediate response to save his people and sustain a healthy living environment for the entire Umudibia residents from looming hazards such mountainous refuse deposits could have caused.
Eze Merenini stated that the government of Imo state through governor Hope Uzodinma has remembered the people of the area and assured him of their total solidarity and reciprocal action.
He pointed out that governor Uzodinma gladdingly obliged his request to continue with the evacuation process within Umudibia Community in addition to the works he has been doing in the state. He added that the refuse dumb at Umuerim village which is very close to St Michael and All Angles Anglican Church and Nekede secondary school have been neglected by previous administrations but remembered by the courtesy of the 3R Government, HRH Merenini counted.
The monarch further stated that, the continous efforts of Government on Nekede/Ihiagwa/Obinze road construction is a top notch project embarked upon by Uzodinma’s led adminstration while adding that the refuse evacuation has added another feat to bring to the people a sustainable living environment.
He assured the state government of their total compliance to the 3R Government and pleaded with the refuse evacuation Intervention team to continue in this tempo accross the zones and in extension to all the rural communities in the state.
The monarch applauded the Chairman special intervention on evacuation, Hon. Goddy Obieze and his parent agency, IMSWAMA ably led by Barr Kelechi Emeakaroha.
In futherance, the chairman, special taskforce on evacuation of Refuse, Imo state, Hon. Godwin Ibieze stated that after an on-the-spot inspection of these dumbs attracted by Eze Godwin Merenini the Governor mandated his team to immediately evacuate the mess, mobilize Bin-Marshalls and keep the area neat.
He stated that the government has deposited much resources to work on the road and promised to replace the abnormal dumping of refuse across the state with waste bins for easy and steady evacuation.
He added that governor Uzodinma by his innovativeness and love for the people of the state has maintained that it is very important and necessary to remove the illegal dumping of refuse at unapproved locations and to replace same with waste bins.
Hon Goddy Obieze, Chairman special taskforce on intervention also reaffirmed that his team was in charge of the last sunday afternoon evacuation of the refuse at Umudibia primary School courtesy of the intervention brought by Eze Godwin Merenini as against the rumor making the rounds that some Individuals/groups facilitated the evacuation going on in the community.
Speaking with the press, the managing director, Imo waste management agency, IMSWAMA Barr. Kelechi Emeakaroha stated that the government is charged to bringing back Imo to its envious status as the cleanest state in Nigeria under Governor Hope Uzodinma and charged Umudibia residents and all Imolites to key into this policy.
The special Intervention chariman, Goddy Obieze told our News correspodent that his team is in-charge of Refuse evacuation in Owerri and its environs while promising to remove all unapproved refuse dumps and replace same with waste bins.
At the end of the evacuation process, Waste Bins will be placed at respective sites and Bin-Marshalls be deployed to monitor its disposal and hand over offenders to the appropriate law enforcement agency as reported by 9News Nigeria Owerri.
While commending the gesture established by Imo state government, the people expressed Happiness and prayed God to help the Government Sustain this tempo.
Those in company of the Umudibia monarch to witness the evacuation process were community leaders from the four towns of Umudibia Autonomous community including some religious leaders, council of chiefs, youths and women groups.
