The Association of South East Town Unions (ASETU) has expressed delight at the blockage of food supply slammed on the South by the North, saying the measure cannot make the South to cower or scamper for help.
The association, in a statement signed by its National President, Chief Emeka Diwe and National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Gideon Adikwuru said it foresaw the prospect and unfolded its Aku Ruo Ulo programme to stem the tide.
It stated that the agricultural component of the Aku Ruo Ulo programme which was launched in 2020 was already into full swing.
According to it, to attain food security and sufficiency in protein production, the association had flagged off pilot piggery projects in five states of the South East with species that mature within a short period.
It added that Igbo land would soon begin the exportation of pork meat even as it said it was making investments in mechanized crop production, cattle ranching and poultry.
ASETU, therefore, directed the presidents-general of communities across Igbo land to coordinate efforts in line with the framework already released to them by the association.
According to it, the target is to ensure steady and seamless repatriation of Igbo wealth thereby unleashing potentials in all sectors of the Igbo economy in order to facilitate job and wealth creation for the people.
It enjoined Igbo in the diaspora to reach out to Presidents-General of their town unions to know areas they could funnel investible capital to.
The association disclosed that it was already aware of the efforts of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) and other foodstuffs and cattle dealers’ associations in the North to enforce the blockage.
It added that its excitement over the blockage stems from the fact that it would quicken the attainment of food sufficiency and stop the capital flight caused by the imperialism of Northern agro-cartels in Igbo land.
