Nwachukwu Elected State Chairman, Ogoko Emerges Secretary, At The Just Concluded Imo PDP State Congress

The People’s Democratic Party PDP Imo state have also concluded the party state Congress wherein Hon. Nwachukwu was elected State Chairman alongside Ogoko who emerged as Secretary among others.

The congress committee have received alot of recommendations across party lines for the most outstanding State Congress as Lancelot Obiaku State Publicity Secretary Imo PDP told Newsmen in Owerri shortly after the election.

Accordingly, “Joy, peace, harmony, and great satisfaction reigned supreme as the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Imo State chapter, held its State Congress on Saturday, August 31, 2024, to elect new members of the State and Zonal executives.

“The event, which was staged at the Kanu Nwankwo Sports Center, Aladinma Owerri, in the State capital, saw former House of Reps member, Hon. Austin Nwachukwu elected State Chairman and Hon. Gerald Ogoko as State Secretary, while Hon. Chidi Agbasi emerged as the Deputy Chairman.

“A total of 2,916 accredited delegates from the various wards and LGAs voted at the peaceful congress observed by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS), the Police, and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

“Also elected into various positions of the State Working Committee included: Organizing Secretary, Mr. Felix Nwosu; Publicity Secretary, Lancelot Obiaku; Treasurer, Godstime Ozigbo; Youth leader, Ndubueze Egburuaja; Women Leader, Lolo Edith Nwachi; Auditor, Demian Ogu; Legal Adviser, Barr Beneth Amakamara; ⁠Financial Secretary, Hon Ugorji Onuegbu.

“Others were: Vice Chairman (Owerri Zone), Hon. Geofrey Ihentuge; Vice Chairman (Orlu Zone), Hon. Carl Nwokoma; Vice Chairman (Okigwe Zone), Chief Chuks Ajaelu; Assistant Women Leader (Owerri Zone), Lolo Chinyere Onyeise; Assistant Women Leader (Orlu Zone), Chinyere Okoro; Assistant Women Leader (Okigwe Zone), Clara Ugha; Assistant Organizing Secretary (Owerri Zone), Dorathy Ogazi; Assistant Organizing Secretary (Orlu Zone), Finbar Mbanaso; Assistant Organizing Secretary (Okigwe Zone), Obiawuchi Agiriga; Assistant Secretary (Owerri Zone), Arthur Ugochukwu; Assistant Secretary (Orlu Zone), Hon Mike Okafor; Assistant Secretary (Okigwe Zone), Ikechukwu Ajaero; Assistant Treasurer (Owerri Zone), Akudo Unachukwu; Assistant Treasurer; (Orlu Zone), Harry Ihebinike; Assistant Treasurer (Okigwe Zone), Chief Paul Uche.

“There were also, Assistant Youth Leader (Owerri Zone), Ibe Chijioke; Assistant Youth Leader (Orlu Zone), Nobert Duru; Assistant Youth Leader (Okigwe Zone), Izuchukwu Ugochukwu; Assistant Auditor (Owerri Zone), Chief Tony Ahunanya; Assistant Publicity Secretary (Orlu), Ikechukwu Onuoha; Assistant Legal Adviser, Barr Annie Uzoka Callistus; Assistant Financial Secretary (Orlu Zone), Fred Opia; Ex-Officio1 (Owerri Zone), Charles Ndubuisi Ogaziechi; Ex-Officio, (Owerri Zone): Ken Njoku; Ex-Officio (Orlu Zone): Gertrude Obiefuna; Ex-Officio (Orlu Zone), Hon Henry Ogugua; Ex-Officio (Okigwe Zone), Basil Okewulonu; Ex-Officio (Okigwe Zone), Kingsley Egbuche.

Speaking immediately after he was announced winner, the State Chairman, Hon. Austin Nwachukwu expressed gratitude at the opportunity to lead the PDP in Imo State and pledged to use the same to rebrand and reposition the party to enviable heights in the Eastern Heartland.

Hon. Nwachukwu, who hails from the Ehime Mbano LGA of the State, said that his administration will engender discipline, unity, and internal democracy in the party.

He promised that under his watch, Imo PDP would give youths more opportunities to be part of the party’s mainstream and to grow politically. He equally said that women’s participation will be greatly encouraged.

The National Secretary of the PDP, Sen. Samuel Anyanwu, Samdaddy who also voted at the congress congratulated the newly elected Chairman, urging him to live up to the weight of confidence reposed in him by members of the party.

The immediate past State Caretaker Committee Chairman, Sir Chidi Dike, was also on hand to support the new Chairman. Dike wished him well and prayed that his tenure would be more fruitful.

Upon the election of the new SWC members, the Chairman of the State Congress Planning Committee and the PDP Southeast Zonal Organizing Secretary, Hon. Mike Ahumibe, announced the dissolution of the State Caretaker Committee after four months of dedicated service, his dissolution motion supported by Hon. Jude Opara.

Declaring the results, the Chairman of Congress Electoral Panel, Amb. Ojong Agbor said that 2,916 accredited delegates voted.

Agbor expressed delight at the peaceful conduct of the exercise and the harmonious manner in which Imo PDP as a whole saw through the State Congress.

Admitting that Imo PDP is tremendously organized, he thanked the Chief Mike Ahumibe-led Congress Planning Committee for their collaboration to ensure the delivery of a fantastic job.
