A young woman reportedly identified as Brenda has died under suspicious circumstances in Warri, Delta State, after spending the night with a man she met on the social media platform TikTok.
The incident, which has raised serious concerns about online dating, occurred over the weekend. According to sources, Brenda connected with a TikTok user named Emmypounds. After three days of chatting and developing a virtual relationship, Brenda accepted an invitation to spend the night at his home on Jakpa Road in Warri.
Friends and family began to worry when Brenda’s phone became unreachable for several days. One of her close friends was able to access her TikTok account on another phone. After reviewing her messages, they discovered that she went to meet Emmypounds.
When contacted, Emmypounds claimed that Brenda had fallen ill and had been taken to a hospital. Her family immediately traced her to the medical facility, only to find her in critical condition.
Reports indicated that Brenda had multiple bruises on her body and was wearing adult diapers due to involuntary defecation and urination. She was unable to speak and ultimately passed away without revealing what had happened to her.
Police authorities have since taken Emmypounds into custody for questioning. He maintains his innocence, stating that they both slept in the same room and that he woke up to find her in that condition.
Delta Police Public Relations Officer Edafe Bright informed reporters that the police do not suspect foul play, suggesting that Brenda may have died from generator fumes. “It’s not a case of murder. They had a generator running in the house, and it is suspected that the fumes may have caused her death while the man escaped narrowly. It was only after he recovered that he was taken into custody,” he stated.
It has been reported that Brenda has been laid to rest, while the police investigation into the matter continues.
