IMO: A non- tribalistic legend, literal icon and community leader in Umuehie Mgbolo Okuku Owerri West local government area of Imo state, Hon Chief Anthony Nwakuna Obi was buried Wednesday afternoon 17th, December, 2025 in his aboriginal Okuku country home.
At a funeral service organized in his honour, the Minister (Pastor Mrs Chukwugoziem Esther) of God’s Life Holy Ghost Church (aka Fire Fire) Uborji Okuku Owerri West LGA, reiterated the fact that every human being under this earth must die someday and immediately the breath is seized , judgement follows.
The Minister further applauded the efforts of the wife of Late Anthony Nwakuna, Mrs Cecilia Nwakuna, established in the church as worthy of emulation and in addition she encouraged the entire Nwakuna family to be close to God mostly now such an irreplaceable vacuum is created.
Speaking further, Pastor Innocent Nnduo told the bereaved family that the hope of the people of God is built on nothing less than Jesus ‘ blood and righteousness and therefore consoled the Nwakuna family to lean on Christ, the Solid Rock, because all other ground is sinking sand. Pastor Nnduo Innocent cited his references on the first Scripture reading, taken from 1cor. 15:19,34-44,54, 35, 58 and second reading from 1Thess 4:13-18.
Pastor (Mrs) Esther reassured the Nwakuna immediate family to keep trusting God and preserve the notable feat established by their Late Father, husband, Uncle, brother and friend, late Chief Lawrence Nwakuna.
While reading his funeral oration, crowds of dignitaries and guests at the burial were told that late Anthony Ebere Nwakuna was born 1959-2025 in the family of Late Mr Lawrence and Adaure Nwakuna Obi of Mgbolo Okuku in Owerri West Imo State. The late Anthony grew up as a stunch Roman Catholic member in St Patrick Catholic Church where he was baptized by late Sir Basil Ike during the years of the Irish Reverend Father Ryne.
Unarguably, late Anthony Nwakuna was the first son of his family having four other siblings. He got married to Mrs Cecilia Nwakuna and blessed with four progressive sons.
As a notable crusader against injustice, late Anthony Nwakuna stood to uncover so many fraudulent activities that bedevilled Okuku community in his life time and seriously fought to reshape the mindsets of the youths of the community to positive ventures and upgrade in educational careers.
He was a traditional Chief in Okuku community which later earned him a traditional title of Aririerimba from Nekede , a neighboring community in Owerri West among other grades of awards. Late Anthony Nwakuna also contested for the enviable stool of the traditional ruler of Okuku community in the year 2013, a task that he was well prepared for.
In politics and work career, late Anthony Nwakuna’s performances can be characterized as excellent and worthy of emulation. Anthony Nwakuna contested under UNPP in 2023 after his defection from the PDP.
His work experience cuts across manager dry-cleaning services, Nigerian customs (1982-1984). He later joined the league of University lectureship in both Martin Ukaegbu private nursing school (2004-2005), Imo Polytechnic Umuagwu and Imo State University IMSU Owerri respectively.
Very importantly, late Anthony Nwakuna was a known sage in the literal world as 9News Nigeria authoritatively reports. He attended primary education in Calabar, Secondary School at Trinity High School Oguta, BSc human psychology (UNIJOS) 1988 set, NYSC 1989 at Gorondutse children remand home Kano State, MSc industrial psychology IMSU, Ph.D Sociology and Personel Management IMSU.
In furtherance, the burial was well attended, well organized by his children including some distinguished relatives and cousin brothers like Mr Alpacino from Britain and Police Officer recently serving at the State command Owerri, Mr Evans Nwakuna and other notable diaspora relatives captured by 9News Nigeria.
In his tribute, His son, Snukaz Chikwado Lawrence from Europe said, “Above all, my father was a protector. No matter the circumstances or challenges, Dad stood by his children with unwavering loyalty and passion. His strength wasn’t loud, it was steady, constant and deeply felt”.
The burial featured creme de-la -creme of notable academia , politicians, dignitaries from all works of life including Traditional rulers, Royal cabinet members, community leaders, clergy , youth groups, women groups, friends, well-wishes, in-laws alongside several band and dance groups. The master of ceremony (MC Sleek- Ushi-na-Aboshi) was at the center stage of the burial event of the Late sage. Left to mourn Anthony Nwakuna are children, wife, brothers alongside other respected friends and relatives.
