Osun Senator, Francis Fadahunsi has clarified his recent comment in which he was quoted as saying that the Accord Party should be “killed.”
Fadahunsi, a senator representing Osun Central Senatorial District, said the phrase was used figuratively to mean defeating the Accord Party at the polls.
The clarification follows political activities in Osun State, where political parties and their supporters are intensifying preparations ahead of the 2026 governorship election.
Addressing the controversy surrounding his comment, Fadahunsi said he was referring to electoral defeat rather than physical harm.
“I didn’t say it in English. I meant kill them by votes,” the senator clarified.
He explained that political language is sometimes used metaphorically to describe the defeat of an opponent, insisting that the statement was made in the context of political competition and was not a call for violence against members of the party.
The Accord Party has emerged as one of the political platforms seeking to challenge the established political structures in the state.
Fadahunsi maintained that elections should remain the legitimate avenue for political competition, urging supporters to channel their energy into voter mobilisation, persuasion and peaceful participation in the democratic process.
He said his use of the word “kill” was strictly political and should be understood as a call to defeat the party through the ballot box.
