Mrs Berida Irawo, the woman allegedly set ablaze by her husband, Jacob Irawo, in Lokoja, Kogi State, has pleaded for her husband to be forgiven despite the horrific attack.
The victim, reportedly made the appeal after her husband, Jacob Irewa, allegedly set her ablaze following a domestic disagreement.
The incident occurred o Friday, August 14, 2026, at Oworo Estate in the Felele area of Lokoja Kogi State Police Command subsequently arrested Irewa over allegations of attempted culpable homicide.
Preliminary Investigations indicated that the dispute started after Berida allegedly burnt some of her husband’s clothes which she believed he no longer using, without seeking his permission.

A pastor, John Esiga Abu, who visited Berida at the hospital on Tuesday August 18, confirmed that she had appealed for her husband’s forgiveness.
Abu also clarified that Irewa is not a pastor, contrary to some reports circulating about the incident. He said the suspect is a teacher. He also said Jacob appeared confused about what had happened and suggests that he undergo mental evaluation and rehabilitation.
Abu, however, recommended that the couple remain separated for the time being, stressing the need for caution and proper intervention following the alleged incident.
The case has continued to draw concern as authorities investigate the circumstances surrounding the attack as the victim receives medical treatment.
