Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has issued an Executive Order establishing a Coroner Inquest and Panel of Inquiry into the killings, and violence that occurred in Ikire, Irewole Local Government Area.
The violence, which occurred on August 24, 2026, was reported around Naira and Kobo Junction and the Motor Park/Garage Area in Ikire.
The inquiry is expected to examine the circumstances surrounding the incident, establish the causes and sequence of events, and determine the factors that led to the shootings, loss of lives and outbreak of violence.
The August 24 violence has generated concern within the community, with the latest Executive Order expected to provide a formal framework for determining what transpired and identifying measures required to strengthen security and maintain peace in Ikire.
The Coroner Inquest will focus on matters relating to the deaths recorded during the incident, while the Panel of Inquiry will investigate the broader circumstances surrounding the violence and make recommendations to prevent a recurrence.
