Anambra 2021 Appropriation: Obiano Presents 140 Billion Naira Budget To State Assembly

Determined to maintain the January-December budget cycle, Governor Willie Obiano today, November 3rd, 2020, presented one hundred and fourty three point six five billion naira 2021 Appropriation Bill to Anambra state house of Assembly for consideration and approval.

Eighty-six point nine billion naira, representing sixty point five percent of the capital budget, is allocated to the economic sector, while three hundred and fifty six point eight billion naira is allocated to the social sector. 

The recurrent expenditure is projected to take thirty nine point five percent of the total budget size, translating to fifty six point seven seven billion naira, while the remaining sixty point five percent translates to eighty six point eight eight billion naira is for the capital expenditure.

The sum is expected to drive the 2021 budget theme of Economic Recovery and Consolidation, which will help help sustain the past performance and ensure maintenance of Anambra’s status as a hub fo business and a destination for new investments.

Highlighting the sectoral capital plans, Governor Obiano said that roads and bridges will gulp thrity two billion naira, explaining that while nineteen point four four billion naira will be spent on the construction of new roads as well as rehabilitation of existing ones, stating his administration’s plan of completing fifty ongoing road projects in the three senatorial zones of the state.

He added that the Anambra Road Maintenance Agency (ARMA) will be sufficiently funded for effective road maintenance in the state.

The Speaker, Rt. Honourable Uche Okafor assured the Governor that the Assembly will ensure accelerated passage of the bill.

Present at the ceremony are Sectetary to the State Government, Prof Solo Chukwulobelu, Chief of staff to the Governor, Mr Primus Odili, Head of Service, Barrister Harry Uduh, Bishop of Awka Diocese, Most Rev. Paulinus Ezeokafor, APGA National Chairman, Chief Victor Oye, members of the state executive council led by the Budget Team, Deputy Chairman of the Traditional Rulers’ Council, Igwe Sunday Okafor, others.

Recall that Governor Obiano had postponed the 2021 budget presentation by one week, following the #EndSARS protests and unrest across the country.
