A Director of Information, Hope ’93 MKO Abiola Campaign Organisation, Obafemi Oredein, has asked President Muhammadu Buhari to put the face of the presumed winner of the June 12, 1993 election, on a denomination of the Naira note.
Oredein, in a statement on Thursday, commended Buhari for officially acknowledging Abiola’s contribution to democracy, and posthumously conferring him with the Grand Commander of the Federal Republic (GCFR).
“President Buhari should ensure that a denomination of the national currency, the naira, bears the portrait of Chief Abiola in addition to the posthumous award of the nation’s highest honour, the GCFR.
“Chief Abiola deserves both in recognition of the supreme sacrifice he paid for the restoration of democracy in Nigeria.
“I also praise President Buhari for his courageous action on the June 12 election and his government`s decision to erase the grave injustice done to Chief Abiola, his running mate Alhaji Baba Gana Kingibe and all Nigerians who voted for them,” Oredein said.
