Veteran journalist and former presidential aspirant, Dele Momodu, has urged the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to consider him as the running mate to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar for the 2027 presidential election.
Momodu made the appeal in a social media post on Monday, arguing that an Atiku Momodu ticket would provide a strong North South political alliance capable of mounting a serious challenge against the ruling party in the next general election.
To support his proposal, he shared an infographic titled “The Attraction of Atiku Abubakar/Dele Momodu Ticket,” highlighting what he described as his key advantages, including media influence, youth appeal, and broad national acceptance.
The publisher of Ovation Magazine called on the ADC leadership to prioritize political strategy over sentiment when making decisions on zoning and candidate selection.
Momodu maintained that the party should position itself as a platform that blends political experience with modern ideas and fresh perspectives.
Having contested for president under the National Conscience Party in 2011 and later sought the presidential ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party ahead of the 2023 election, Momodu said he remains committed to contributing to Nigeria’s political future.
He predicted that the 2027 presidential race would likely be dominated by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Atiku Abubakar, while suggesting that any third-force movement could face significant hurdles in breaking the influence of the two leading figures.
Momodu also advised the ADC to steer clear of internal disputes and embrace what he termed “idea-driven politics” as preparations for the election gather momentum.
Political analysts believe the proposal adds another dimension to ongoing opposition realignments and coalition talks ahead of what is expected to be a fiercely contested 2027 election.
