The Presidency has announced that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will soon hold a meeting with his United States counterpart, Donald Trump, to discuss allegations of a Christian killings in Nigeria.
The planned meeting was disclosed by Daniel Bwala, Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Policy Communication, in a statement shared via his official on X handle on Saturday.
According to Bwala, the high-level engagement will take place “In the coming days” and will focus on strengthening cooperation in the global fight against terrorism and religious extremism.
“Both President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and President Donald Trump have shared interest in the fight against insurgency and all forms of terrorism against humanity”, Bwala stated.
The announcement comes shortly after Trump made comments accusing Nigerian government of ignoring attacks on Christians.
President Trump has threatened potential military action against Nigeria to, in his words, “Wipe out terrorists killing Christians”, and warned that the U.S. might cut off all aid to the country.
Bwala, however, noted that both leaders have demonstrated mutual commitment to tackling insurgency.
He added that Trump has previously supported Nigeria by approving arms sales during his administration, which Tinubu’s government has “adequately utilized in its counterterrorism operations.
The Presidency did not disclose the exact date or venue for the meeting.
