A total of 400 women from Katsina State have so far benefited from cash transfer initiated by the Aisha Buhari Foundation sponsored by the wife of President Muhammadu Buhari, Aisha.
The Director of Information to the wife of the President, Suleiman Haruna, disclosed this in a statement made available to journalists on Friday.
Haruna said 200 women from the President’s hometown, Daura, benefited from the scheme on Wednesday while 200 others drawn from all parts of the state benefited on Friday.
He said, “Another 200 women benefitted from the Aisha Buhari Foundation’s Community-Based Cash Transfer Intervention in Katsina.
“This was a continuation to a similar event in Daura in which 200 women were assisted with cash to grow their business last Wednesday.
“The event held at the Katsina Multipurpose Hall on Friday, August 24, 2018.
“The Katsina event witnessed a large turnout of women who are into various small businesses like agricultural products processing and marketing, catering (including akara and masa sellers), cosmetics, tailoring and beading.”
Haruna quoted the foundation’s coordinator, Dr. Kamal Muhammad, who represented Wife of the President at the event as saying that the cash transfer initiative is in line with the vision of Future Assured Programme on improving the health and well-being of women and children.
He further quoted Muhammad as saying that the transfer would lead to an improvement in household income, which will in-turn improve feeding and nutritional status, school attendance and quality of education as well as improved health status of the family, among other benefits.
