The two newly appointed commissioners in Borno State have taken oath of office and allegiance.
This newspaper had reported earlier the appointment of the commissioners by the state governor, Prof Babagana Umara Zulum.
The swearing-in ceremony took place on Tuesday in Maiduguri and administered by the Chief Judge of the state, Justice Kashim Zanna.
The two commissioners, Alhaji Umar Lawan Dalorima and Architect Isa Ali Haladu, were appointed to replace the late commissioners of the Ministry of Finance, Ahmed Ali, and that of Reconstruction, Rehabilitation, and Resettlement, Engr Ibrahim Idriss.
Similarly, Governor Zulum has announced the creation of a new ministry in the state after the swearing-in ceremony.
He said that the new ministry, Ministry of Livestock, would be managed by his deputy, Umar Usman Kadafur as a supervising commissioner.
The over a decade long Boko-Haram terrorists activities in Borno State has affected the state’s economy, especially it’s livestock and other import and export businesses with Nigeria’s bordering neighbors of Chad and Cameroon.
Governor Zulum’s foresight and decision to create the livestock ministry is likely in response to that reality and it’s effect.
The governor noted that investment in livestock would make Borno a top player in beef and other livestock related businesses at both national and international levels.
Emphasizing on the need and importance of the new ministry, he noted that investment in it would boost the state’s revenue generation.
He also noted that the state government must continue to initiate ideas and investments economic activities to help reduce dependence on monthly allocations from the Federal Government.
