Anthony Joshua has shared an emotional message with fans following the deaths of his two close friends in a car accident in Nigeria, saying he is not afraid of death and reflecting on the bond he shared with them.
The former World Heavyweight Champion, 36, sustained minor injuries in the crash on December 29, 2025, near Lagos, which claimed the lives of Sina Ghami, his strength and conditioning coach, and Latif ‘Latz’ Ayodele his personal trainer.
Joshua, Ghami, and Ayodele were all passengers in the vehicle when it collided with a stationary truck. Ghami and Ayodele were both pronounced dead at the scene, while Joshua was pictured being helped from he wreckage .

In a six-minute video posted on social media, Joshua thanked fans for their support during the “tragic, traumatic time” and described the loss as devastating.
He said, “One day my time will come, and I’m not scared either at all it’s actually comforting knowing I got two brothers on the other side”.
Joshua recalled their close bond , saying the trio had become “business partners, hustlers, lieutenants, generals -everything together.
He highlighted the personal impact of the loss, stating that not only families but also he himself had lost two people who played major roles.
He pledged to support the families of Ghami and Ayodele, helping them “achieve their goals” and fulfil their dreams”, adding that he was certain their parents were proud of them.
The driver of the Lexus SUV, Adeniyi Kayode, 46, appeared in court in Nigeria last week and has been charged with four other offences, including causing a death by dangerous driving.
Joshua has since returned to training sharing a video on Snapchat showing him hitting the pads as a form of “mental strength therapy” while he has not confirmed whether he will fight again, promoter Eddie Hearn believes he will return “when the time is right” though Joshua uncle expect him to announce his retirement.
The remains of Ghami and Ayodele were flown back to the United Kingdom, where funeral prayer was held at London Mosque on January 4, 2026.
