Some women in Kano have appealed to the Kano State Hisbah Board and the state government to make gender separation mandatory in commercial tricycles, popularly known as Adaidaita Sahu.
The women are calling for tricycle operators to install partitions inside their vehicles to create a clear separation between male and female passengers during journeys.
According to them, the current seating arrangement in many tricycles often leaves male and female passengers sitting closely together, which they say can make women uncomfortable.
They further expressed concern that the close seating arrangement could sometimes result in unwanted physical contact between male and female passengers, particularly when the tricycle is crowded.
The women urged the authorities to consider introducing and enforcing regulations requiring commercial tricycle operators and passengers to support any measures introduced by the government or Hisbah Board to ensure a more comfortable and respectful transportation system across the state.
