Former Rivers State Governor and ex-Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has launched a fresh attack on the economic policies of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, accusing the administration of worsening hardship among Nigerians.
Amaechi, while speaking during a political engagement, said Nigerians would have to make a choice in the 2027 election between what he described as “life” under former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and “death” under Tinubu.
He particularly criticised the removal of the petrol subsidy, arguing that the policy had contributed to the rising cost of living and increased economic hardship across the country.
Amaechi who is Atiku’s running mate under the platform of African Democratic Congress (ADC) also condemned the current electricity tariff structure, including the Bands A, B,and C classification, claiming that electricity bills had increased significantly under the policy.
According to him, Atiku has promised to restore electricity subsidies if elected president, thereby reducing the financial burden on households and businesses.
He said an Atiku-led government would also review the petrol subsidy policy and work towards reducing the pump price of petrol.
“When we win, subsidy will come back. Government can do that. All we need is to put money in petrol, bring down the price of petrol, and then we will get back our money”, Amaechi said.
The former minister urged Nigerians to use their votes in 2027 to determine the direction of the country, insisting that government policies should be designed to ease the suffering of citizens.
Amaechi ‘s comments comes as political activities ahead of 2027 presidential election continue to intensify, with opposition figures increasingly challenging the Tinubu administration over the economy, fuel prices, electricity tariffs and the rising cost of living.
